Istanbul Sabiha Gokcen (SAW) Airport is one of the
international airports serving Turkey, named after the
first female combat pilot in the world. Situated 35 km
(22 mi) away from central Istanbul, it lies on the Asian
side of the city. In 2010, the airport registered
11,129,472 passengers, and it is expected to reach the
number of 25 million passengers by 2023. Its creation is
due to the fact that Ataturk International Airport,
located on the European side of Istanbul, couldn’t
